A DAY IN THE LIFE OF....

.... a dental student

Post 1: February 6, 2013

I have been given the opportunity to begin a series on this blog about the life of dental student. By way of introduction, I am Dr. Evans’ son. After graduating from Olympus High School in Salt Lake, I moved to Provo to attend Brigham Young University. I decided early to pursue dentistry. I applied to numerous dental schools across the country. Following my graduation from BYU in April 2011, my wife Emily and I moved to Mesa, Arizona to attend the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health (ASDOH). To say the least, the past 6 months have been challenging and also exciting. ASDOH is a unique program that is an appendage of AT Still University based in Kirksville, MO.

My program emphasizes community service and reaching out to those who are less fortunate. This, among many others reasons, is why Emily and I decided to come here. The curriculum is also very unique. Instead of taking several classes simultaneously, we focus on one class at a time. There are pros and cons to each dental program, but I definitely consider this a positive. It allows you to master each subject and eliminates the dreaded “finals week.” Each class has a smaller amount of students than most schools in the country – I have 75 classmates, so we are a very close-knit group. On the other hand (the not-so-positive hand), we generally take 3-4 exams each week. Our class finals are generally first thing Monday morning and immediately following the exam our next class begins. This leaves us little to no down time. Regardless, we are happy and enjoying our time here.

I look forward to attempting to explain my bizarre life to those lucky enough to stumble upon this blog. If you have comments, concerns, complaints, etc. please direct them to my email: chrisevans9@me.com. Thanks for reading! Instagram
