Gaining Wisdom

Our office is brimming with brains this week. Our staff watched five of their own children graduate from high school. It is a time of reflection, relief and refusal to admit that they (and we) are getting older! This will be a busy summer as we prepare for the future phase of college. One item on the list is taking care of dental needs. Summer is a good time to schedule all students for a check-up and cleaning. If you have college age children, consider checking wisdom teeth status. Dr. Evans can help determine extraction needs, i.e. are teeth emerging correctly, will wisdom teeth crowd or affect existing teeth, will gums become inflamed or painful as teeth erupt and re-erupt? Getting wisdom teeth evaluated and resolved is a good summer project. As far as helping parents cope with college-bound teenagers, well, we all are still grappling with that question.
Congratulations Class of 2010!

Here a dentist, There a dentist....

Dr. Alan Topham graduated from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in May and is now doing a residency at the VA hospital in Dallas, Texas.
Best of luck to the newest dentist in the family!
We hope Alan and his family will enjoy living in a foreign country and learning the language!

Dr. Evans and his family, celebrating with his son-in-law, Alan Topham, D.D.S.

Great Whites

To bleach or not to bleach is not really the question - it is where and when to bleach that begs an answer. Should you use the "white stripling warriors" at home or should you journey to the land of dentalites and try an office visit? What are the pros and cons? Because all of us are concerned about saving money, purchasing white strips at the local market may seem like a good idea. While home bleaching products are good, a visit to the dentist for brighter teeth is better. During your office visit, a mold is made of your teeth for upper and lower bleach trays. Whitening strips usually target some of of your teeth some of the time. A tray allows all teeth to be treated with an easy to apply gel-like bleach. The trays are yours for all future bleaching needs. In the office, you may choose bleach strengths from 16%, 22% or 30%. You will receive four long lasting "tubes" of gel-like bleach. Whitening strips usually have a 3-7% bleaching strength and that means more bleaching more often and repeated purchases. So visiting our office for whiter teeth really is the all around brighter solution.

We Won't Bite

It may seem to take courage to visit the dentist, but on the other hand (no pun intended) think about what it takes to begin an exam for a first time patient. For example:

Guess you could say there is a little fear in all of us on both sides of the dental chair - mixing mouths & fingers can cause concern. However, we promise to try and make your visit here very stress free....be it a first visit, adult or child, or a routine checkup. Now all you have to promise is...not to bite our fingers, even if your name is Charlie.
