National Children's Dental Health Month

Families, February is a great month to schedule a visit with Dr. Evans. Our office is especially ready to "celebrate" children right now. Here is a portion of the latest press release from the ADA.

"Each February, the American Dental Association (ADA) sponsors National Children's Dental Health Month to raise awareness about the importance of oral health. NCDHM messages and materials have reached millions of people in communities across the country.

Developing good habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits helps children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums."

We are ready to help you and your families learn about good dental health this month. Check out our blog for more information, games and fun this month. In the office, Dr. Evans will take extra time to talk with you and your children about teeth. In fact, he loves talking about teeth so much - he may even draw a picture of a tooth for you! Sometimes we think people come to our office just to visit with Dr. Evans.

Because it is February this is Just for Kids:

January Resolutions

January always prompts us to make new promises for better health. Women are especially good at making a New Year assessment. Consider dental health as one option of improvement. Here are a few facts to think about:

(HealthDay News) -- Older women who get regular dental care are about one-third less likely to suffer from heart disease than those who don't, new findings suggest.

The study, which was released online Sept. 29 in advance of publication in an upcoming print issue of Health Economics, analyzed the medical records of nearly 7,000 people aged 44 to 88 who had participated in another study. The data from that study had been collected between 1996 and 2004.

"We think the findings reflect differences in how men and women develop cardiovascular disease," study co-author Dr. Stephen Brown, a obstetrician/gynecologist resident at West Virginia University, said in a news release from the University of California at Berkeley. "Other studies suggest that estrogen has a protective effect against heart disease because it helps prevent the development of atherosclerosis. It's not until women hit menopause, around age 50 to 55, that they start catching up with men."

Dr. Maria Emanuel Ryan, a professor of oral biology and pathology at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, N.Y., said she has seen signs of a link between dental care and heart disease in her own practice. The study, she said, "confirms the findings of some of the studies conducted in the insurance industry, which suggest that the medical costs for cardiac care and diabetes are reduced in patients who have regular dental visits."

There does appear to be a connection between gum disease, in particular, and heart disease. Research suggests that chronic inflammation causes heart disease, Ryan noted, and gum disease "is the most common chronic inflammatory condition in the world. Unfortunately, periodontitis -- or gum disease -- is often a silent disease that goes undetected and untreated."

So make this month of January a great time to schedule an appointment for a dental check up. Your dental health is a good barometer of general well being.

Finding Christmas

December is already here,
Take time to stop rushing
And spread Christmas Cheer!

It takes just one voice ringing,
To help others join in singing...

"FALL BACK"

November and Autumn - a chance to set our clocks back and enjoy a new season. As Albert Camus noted "Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower."

It is a good month to enjoy and re-group before winter. It is a good month to enjoy our harvest and a time to gather together to be Thankful.

It is a good time to think about "counting your blessings" - such simple things as a heated home on a cool November night; a reading lamp and a good book with a w
arm cup of cocoa.

It is a good month to be thankful for our office coworkers & a great office atmosphere.

It is a good month to be thankful for family and friends. We are thankful for the opportunity to have our patients as friends and we hope to make each of you feel welcome here!

Things Are Not Always What They Seem!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Birthday Bash (or why Dr. Evans loves the color orange)!

The month of October is a favorite with crunchy colorful leaves, sunny afternoons and crisp evenings. We like it even more around the office because of this:

A chance to celebrate Dr. Evans' birthday and all things orange. Some things that happened on his birthday:

A fiery cake! Maybe we should begin a contest called "Count the Candles"... or maybe not.

Does the amount of smoke correlate to the number of wishes granted?

**Whew** that was close. This looks good - a near perfect wax impression...just a little scaling and we can eat this puppy.

Pre-op and Post-op. No checking our waistbands.

An orange present wrapped in an or
ange bag...can life get any better?

That was some party...no animals were hurt during filming. As always, Dr. Evans was a good sport and made sure everyone had a good day. He always follows this advice from T.S. Eliot:

"The years between fifty and seventy are t
he hardest. You are always being asked to do things, and yet you are not decrepit enough to turn them down."

We are glad that the "old guy" never runs out of ener
gy, kindness and excellent care each work day. We share the sentiments of our patients, like Harrison, who feel the same way:

We know the best part of your birthday was visiting your grandchildren, however, we still wanted to to remind you that: "Age is strictly a case of mind over matter, if you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Jack Benny

The End.

生日快乐

A Tooth Fairy Tale

Jane knows that losing teeth can be a traumatic experience - this is a truism no matter what age you are. Luckily, a tooth fairy can sometimes be found disguised as a dentist. We would love to wave our magic wand, and **poof** make all your dental dreams come true. Unfortunately, we understand that a simple wave is not possible and that patients can become "anoyd" with some procedures.
However, today's cosmetic and restorative dental procedures come very close to a magic wand. Often a tooth that seems to be on the road to "lost" can be restored during a single visit with a simple composite filling or an in-house crown. Dr. Evans, aka. the tooth fairy, can further provide a choice of bridgework, dental implants, veneers or other replacements for teeth.
So if you have a little loose tooth, we promise to try our best in sprinkling our office with that good old magic fairy dust and have everyone believe in our "grat" dentist!
By the way, check out this video and let us know if the Beach Boys are singing about a "Little Loose Tooth, You Don't Know What I've Lost"!
